What’s on the horizon for food logistics in 2023?

Posted by RMX Global

RMX was formed as a broker to meet the needs of the Food Products industry and we continue to lead with our expertise in this area of service even though we have expanded beyond just the refrigerated industry. Food transportation is a core part of our business and our focus. Here are some areas we have our eye on for the coming year.

  • Changes to refrigerated trailers: The U.S. recently ratified the Kigali Amendment which aims to position the U.S. as a leader in sustainable, environmental manufacturing. The Amendment calls for a reduction in the consumption and production of hydrofluorocarbons (HCFs). U.S. manufacturers of transport refrigeration units (TRUs) are already beginning to use low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants to get ahead of this need. Expect to see more and more talk about low-GWP product options for transport refrigeration.
  • Food storage is booming: After having a capacity crisis and limited options for cold storage, this is a welcome change! New providers are popping up around the country with temperature-controlled facilities that bring more than just capacity. Many of these new facilities offer multi-temperature zones, convertible rooms for refrigerated or frozen, and capabilities for re-pack and bagging services. And as market demands for fresh products rises, the need for additional capacity is going to continue to grow. Cold storage construction is projected to reach $18.6 billion in value by 2027 — an increase of 13.8 percent per year, according to Emergen Research.
  • Technology that makes sense: Real-time tracking and updates are a bare minimum now. With a constant flow of new technology providers and tools, we are focused on user-friendly technology. The tech isn’t much help if it is difficult to access or use! RMX has an app where you can track the real-time location of your load and receive notifications as the order is processed. We aim to go beyond basic dispatching, routing or scheduling and give access to insights that truly affect business process improvements. We also aim to improve our drivers’ experience with technology as well.

We are always monitoring ways to build on our decades of experience and improve our service. RMX Global Logistics has thousands of food-quality carriers in our network and a sophisticated understanding of the issues specific to food product logistics. RMX Global Logistics has been helping shippers broker their loads for nearly 40 years.
